Clover Patch Quilt — The One for Graduation
I’m so excited to share this Alternating Block version of Clover Patch with you!
But, before we dive in, make sure you've caught up on the rest of the Clover Patch release blog posts:
Okay, let's go!
Since releasing my Clover Patch quilt pattern, I've had questions about whether it works in a quieter palette than my usual Starry, color-saturated style — so I want to show you the version I made for my daughter's high school graduation, and talk through how to make this pattern feel like your own.
I designed Clover Patch with two layouts in mind: mix-and-match, like the original Starry version, or alternating block, like this one. Both use the exact same blocks and construction — the only thing that changes is how you arrange them.
For this quilt, I didn't reach for my usual colors. I used my favorite Ruby + Bee solids, but in soft blues, mustard, and warm clay — because those are my daughter's colors, not mine. That's the part I love most about a good pattern: it's not married to one fabric pull. You can make it loud, you can make it quiet, you can make it for someone else entirely and let their colors lead instead of your own instincts.
I also finally did something I’ve been wanting to do for quite some time — Order my binding from Bessie Pearl Binding Co.! They had the PERFECT binding to compliment the Ruby + Bee Solids fabric, and it was so stinkin’ easy! I think by the time I get to the binding stage I’m sort of don’t want to do any more. The quilt feels done. . . but isnt’ done. Grabbing my binding from Bessie Pearl is my new favorite thing and I’ll definitely be doing it again!!
If you've been picturing Clover Patch only in Starry, consider this your permission to imagine it for the people you love, in whatever palette is actually theirs.
